After taking over the business from his father, John from Karrans of Hyde Park has continued the strong family tradition today, with his wife and two daughters working alongside him in every aspect of the business.

Having been in the industry since 1973, John’s unparalleled experience in watch repair and jewellery making have made him a fixture in South Australia’s fine jewellery scene, with a reputation of solid gold. With an on-site workshop, Karrans of Hyde Park ensures a direct relationship between jeweller and client, and John revels in every opportunity to showcase his expertise and work closely with his customers.

Despite offering full on-site services for every element of jewellery making and repairs, Karrans of Hyde Park specialises in hand-crafted diamond jewellery and are known for their exquisite bespoke engagement rings. “We offer a full custom process for all jewellery pieces” John says, “We understand the importance of getting engagement rings right, so we work with you every step of the way to design and create the perfect ring to match any style and budget. Each stage is tailored to you – you can even personally select your stone.”

The Karrans service does not end once your jewellery is purchased. The team are passionate about maintaining jewellery, and offer a free lifetime cleaning service. The benefits of professional cleaning are twofold; allowing your jewellery to not only look stunning, but to also ensure perfect condition. Before cleaning, each piece is inspected and its condition evaluated to guarantee optimum health. “Cleaning is a quick process but it is so important to ensure that there are no underlying problems that could lead to damage” John says, “our female clients will often drop their rings in to be cleaned while they visit one of King William Road’s nail salons…they leave with a fresh manicure and a beautiful, sparkling ring!”

An integral part of the business is the revival of old or unloved jewellery. “We often have customers bring in jewellery that they’re no longer wearing, and work with them to refashion it into wearable pieces” says John, “we want people to love their jewellery, and wear their jewellery.”
